Lomax responds to new safety requirements for clients - Posted 1st August 2005.
Thousands of gas and other service engineers face undergoing compulsory training if they plan to work on any electrical equipment in peoples' homes or business premises.Lomax Training Services have responded to this training need by opening a new purpose built electrical centre in Sunderland to deliver the training and assessment demanded by the Government's new regulations.

The CORGI Part P Defined Scope Electrical Scheme courses have been approved by BPEC Certification and are now running each week.
The course has been designed around the existing ACS template and all the assessments have been broken down to enable candidates to choose the assessments which best match their day to day work activities. The main part of the course is the Core Electrical Competence Assessment, which also includes the necessary assessments for component exchange. Candidates can also choose to sit additional assessments which cover Heating Installation, Power Installation Level B&C and Lighting Level B&C.
This course is the only one available that has been specifically produced to meet the limited electrical tasks that would be carried out by a heating engineer. The course is also available for people who carry out any electrical work which is not part of their normal work activities for example Kitchen fitters, Electrical Roller Shutter Installers and others.
The course programme is made up of a mixture of theory and practical training over four days followed by one day of theory & practical assessments. During the training candidates will be shown how to carry out the required electrical inspection, testing and recording on purpose built training rigs by the Lomax team of experienced electrical trainers & assessors. Gas service engineer candidates who successfully complete the course will be able to apply to join the CORGI Part P Self Certification Scheme. All others will be required to join NIC or ELECSA certification schemes.
